David Benjamin Matossian
January 29, 1938 – March 4, 2023
David was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. by an immigrant Armenian family that valued their faith above all else. He came home to five older siblings; John, James, Mary, Paul, and Lucille. His entire family enjoyed going to their cabin in Big Bear, California where they hiked and fished.
He graduated from Fairfax High School in 1955. He enjoyed chess club, Latin, and tennis class. After high school, he went to LA City College for two years and studied Electronics. David then transferred to UCLA where he studied Mathematics for 2 1/2 years.
David served our country in the Army. He was at Fort Ord as A1 E1 infantry. He was assigned as a Statistical Mathematician to work on anti-ballistic missiles for 2 years.
He worked at Lockheed for 26 years under several titles as a computer analyst.
David and his wife Frances met at the Church of the Open Door; they were married in 1967. For 52 years he was a loving and devoted husband. They lived in their beautiful home in Sunland, CA.
He enjoyed planting things and watching them grow, as seen by all the fruit and lemon trees on their property. Some of David’s hobbies and interests include puzzles, playing chess, and bird watching.
Service will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at 2:00 O’Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills, CA. (Webcast will be available through the Link below)

Our condolences on the loss of your uncle David. When we started going to Sunland Neighborhood Church, David and Fran were some of the first people to make us feel at home. He gave us one of his church directories (because you know David never had only 1 of something!) which we really appreciated. Later on, he and Fran attended the Wednesday evening Bible study that my husband taught. When he saw that my husband DeRon printed out his notes every week, David gave us a new printer just in case ours stopped working. We have very fond memories of this loving and generous

It was an honor to call David Matossian my Uncle; my mother’s youngest brother. We moved to the east coast in the mid-1970’s and would travel back to CA about every other year, which is where so many warm childhood memories were created. Uncle David and Aunt Fran would host our family overnight at both their Sunland and Big Bear homes. He tolerated us boisterous kids in the pool, throwing balls to the dog, and would even pull out the ping pong table in the courtyard for some good competitive fun. We would take evening walks as a family through the Sunland neighborhood and go on hikes in Big Bear. He gave me my first camera – yellow with 110 film. They even donated their Big Bear home for a week for our honeymoon. Not being a boisterous man, it was through the stillness and his actions that you would see the beautiful man that was my uncle. His humor was creative and dry. His mind, brilliant. Thoughtful and generous with his time and actions. A man of God.
