Obituary
Darrell Schmidt, of Mission Viejo, CA, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Saddleback Hospital. He was born in Walla Walla, Washington, August 22, 1933.
He married Leona Rose Schmidt in the McConnell Air Force Base chapel, 11 April 1959, and they had 2 children, Darrell Jr. and Roxanne.
He served 20 years in the Air Force, retiring as Lt Colonel. He then worked as a pilot for Air California, which was taken over by American Airlines for a total of 20 more years. He then worked about 7 years at Flight Safety Int’l as Flight instructor in the simulator.
He is survived by his children, Darrell Jr. and daughter Roxanne Elliot, daughter-in-law Marilou, granddaughter Darlyn and grandchildren-in-law Aimee and Jayvee.
A memorial service will be held at O’Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills, CA, September 25, 2025.

I was so saddened when I heard about Darrell’s passing. It had been a few years since I had seen Darrell last, but when I saw him at his 92nd birthday party at Hennessey’s it was like no time had passed at all. He still had his wonderful big smile and gleam in his eyes. I always looked forward to seeing him when I was able to attend the Tuesday night dinners. I met Darrell through my brother, Richard, who worked with Darrell at Air Cal and American. Richard always spoke so highly of Darrell. I know Darrell and his BIG smile and gleaming eyes will be missed terribly. My prayers and sympathies go out to his family. How lucky they were to have him for so long.
