Obituary

Daniel Pelot, MD, 89, was born in South Carolina and passed away in Huntington Beach, California on November 29, 2023.

Dan is survived by daughters Michele R. Pelot, MD (Ross Canning) and Denise Danielle Pelot, JD; grandchildren Aidan and Olivia; and many nieces and nephews.

Dan was a physician and professor of medicine for over 40 years. After graduating college (Savannah State) and medical school (Howard University), he trained at Los Angeles County-USC Hospital, volunteered at the Los Angeles Veterans Administration Hospital, and served for decades on the faculty and staff of UCI Medical Center. Board-certified in Gastroenterology, Dan was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and an active member of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG). Over the years Dan loved mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows, and engaging with colleagues to seek the best in patient care. His research, writing, speaking, and teaching took him from humble roots to big cities and internationally to China and Australia.

As a devoted husband to Ann for nearly 50 years and a loving father, brother, uncle, and grandfather, Dan leaves a beautiful legacy of commitment to family, hard work, dependability, and service. His repertoire of jokes combined with a gentle manner and concern for others will be sorely missed by all who turned to Dan for counsel — especially his beloved family.

Services will be held at O’Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Pkwy, Laguna Hills, CA 92653 on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 11AM.

Burial rites follow at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery, 7845 E Santiago Canyon Rd., Orange, CA 92869.
