Obituary

Cynthia Ann Whitworth, age 58, joined her sister Karen in heaven on Friday October 18, 2013.

Cindy was born in Fullerton, California on September 3, 1955 to her parents Ruth and Gordon Montgomery. Cindy was a very strong minded and resourceful person and was well liked by everyone she met. She was always up to date on what was happening. She attended college in Kent Washington studying Physical Therapy and recently she completed a four-year bible course at her Episcopalian Church in Redondo Beach. She spent quality time raising her son Christopher, and her daughter Chelsi. She included the Montgomery name in Chris’s middle name. Cynthia often spoke of the Beattitudes. One, that would define her life. ‘Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after rightiousness: for they shall be filled.’ Matthew 5, 6. Another that she felt would apply to us, the family and friends today. ‘Blessed are they that mourn:for they shall be comforted.’ Matthew 5,4

Her son, Chris, and daughter-in-law Melissa brought into this world twins, Cody and Brianna and recently another grandson Owen was born. He is 9 weeks old. When Chelsi and Sean brought their son Grayson into the world she stayed often with them and helped her daughter with Grayson. Cindy spent most of her time for and with her gandchildren. She was a loving and devoted Mom and grandma.

Cindy has two sisters, Sue and Karen. Sue is married to Jim Toner and they have two children Shaina and Grant. Sue named her daughter Shaina Karen Toner and her son James Grant Toner, using her sisters name Karen and her dad’s middle name Grant. Sue and Cindy raised their families together. Shaina and Chelsi are very close and Grant fits right in with them. They both loved Aunt Cindy and their cousins, Cody, Brianna, Owen, and Grayson and they loved babysitting.

Cindy and Chelsi accompanied The Toner family on many trips over the years,New York, Hawaii and Florida and many closer places.

Her other sister Karen crossed ovcer in 1981 Cindy asked to be placed with her.

  1. 21 years ago Cindy and I met, poolside at a home warming for Jim and Susie, on Costa Del Sol. Our girls were 6 yrs old then, and our lives were full of weekend outings, and Jazz classes. I’ll never forget my dear friend but only reflect on how she enriched my life. How She became my “confidant” and “Partner”, Al and I tried to conceive with no success, we decided that IVF was the only way, and Al being afraid of needles, Cindy stepped in without hesitation, day after day, sometimes at 2 or 3 in the mornings. Cindy my rock and salvation. You my Dearest friend always poise and elegant in everyway. Lending me Chelsi for the weekend when Meagan was gone with her father, never a mention or gripe, lending me her daughter that would soon enough feel she was mine as well. The countless dinners , or walks on the beach. You were always there for me, in good times and in bad, like it just was…..My immediate family grew the day I met Cindy, and I couldn’t feel more blessed or enriched for it. We often said ” we will laugh about this someday, drinking margaritas by the pool”, You are an inspiration for all women and a testament for friendship and sisterhood, for as memories as we made are the ones I’ll call on when thinking of what a beautiful person you truly were….Thank you for being in my Life …until we meet again

  2. Cindy Hirsch says:

Cynthia and I shared many years as close friends….from JR High till our mid twenties. I’m sad to say we drifted apart in our adult years. So many good memories and laughs….she is truley missed. Gordon, Ruth, Susie, Chelsi and Chris and all her friends and family….may you find comfort in the following verse.

    “The Ship”

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, “There, she is gone”

    Gone where?

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me — not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, “There, she is gone,”
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, “Here she comes!”

    And that is dying…

Death comes in its own time, in its own way.
Death is as unique as the individual experiencing it.

    Blessings to you all,
