Obituary

Cynthia Bobruk, Executive Director and President of the Orange Catholic Foundation passed away on April 26th, 2019. Cindy led the development staff and was responsible for the leadership and operations of the Foundation supporting all aspects of Catholic life in Orange County, California.

The Orange Catholic Foundation (OCF) and Mrs. Bobruk, under the leadership of the OCF Board of Directors and in collaboration with the Most Reverend Kevin Vann, Bishop of Orange worked tirelessly on the renovation of the 35-acre Christ Cathedral (formerly Crystal Cathedral) campus in Garden Grove. Her efforts also served to grow the tuition assistance endowment for students at Catholic elementary schools, an endowment for the needs of retired diocesan priests, support of the 62 parishes and centers in the diocese and provide resources for vital pastoral ministries including Catholic Charities of Orange County.

Cindy worked in nonprofit advancement for more than 30 years. She began her career in the nonprofit sector as a development director for the University of California – Irvine and a director of advancement for St. Margaret’s Episcopal School and the J.F. Shea Therapeutic Riding Center in San Juan Capistrano.

Her extraordinary leadership, exceptional ethical standards and devotion to her Catholic faith were evident in the many successful philanthropic initiatives she led. Cindy will be missed as a professional, a colleague and a friend.

Despite her hectic schedule, family and friends were Cindy’s passion and delight. She enjoyed horseback riding, watching baseball games and was often found at her sons’ sporting events with the love of her life, Jonathan Bobruk. Cindy and Jonathan married 28 years ago in Dana Point. Shortly after, they moved to Ladera Ranch and raised their two sons, Jack and Luke.

Cindy is survived by her husband and two sons and several loving relatives and close friends. She and her family are founding parishioners of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ladera Ranch, California.

The Board of the Orange Catholic Foundation established the Cynthia Bobruk Operations Endowment Fund in her honor. Memorial gifts may be made at www.OrangeCatholicFoundation.org/Cindy.

  1. I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Cindy during my ministry at St. Bonvaventure School and Rosary High School. Her kindness, patience, and professionalism were inspiring and humbling. My family will pray for your family’s comfort in the knowledge that she is always with you in Christ.

  2. Thank you for all your hard work Cindy. We may not know each other but I appreciate all the lifting that you did for our Catholic Faith. Surely, God is welcoming you with open arms as one of HIS best soldiers. God Bless Your Family…

My heart is breaking to hear this sad news of Cindy’s passing! She was a very dear soul with a love for helping others. We both shared a Catholic bond and she was the one who inspired me to volunteer and teach Faith Formation after I retired from St. Margaret’s. May God Bless Cindy and family. ,

  4. Fortunately for me, and many others at St. Margaret’s Episcopal School, Cindy joined our school community as the Development Director in 1992 and remained after I retired in 2003. During this time the school experienced remarkable growth in facilities, student population, land acquisition, faculty salaries, financial aid and a healthy sense of pride in the education being offered, and the students who benefitted from it. None of this would have been possible without the extraordinary fund raising leadership, integrity, and professionalism of Cindy, working with and inspiring members of the Board of Trustees, and hundreds of parent volunteers, while establishing a collegial and supportive relationship with faculty and staff. Cindy worked tirelessly for the school to ensure that growth and excellence would be sustained from year to year. All the while she also was devoted to her husband, Jonathan, and sons Jack and Luke.
I will miss Cindy as friend and former colleague and know that St. Margaret’s school will bear the evidence of her impact for years to come.

  5. Our prayers and thoughts are with the entire Bobruk family. The heavens have a teriffic set angel wings watching over all us now.
