Obituary
New Year’s Day, 1923, brought Cylvia into this world and she passed away on January 22, 2006, after living a contentful and fulfilling 83 years. She grew up in Duluth, Minnesota and moved to California during World War 2 to be near her brothers Louis, Izzy and Mickey and sister Sally. In 1946, she met veteran Harvey Blate, and they soon married and started raising a family in Venice, California where they made many lifelong friends.
In 1955, Harvey and Cylvia moved to Anaheim with their children Andrea, Gary and Stephen, and two years later daughter Melissa was born. Cylvia loved fashion and people and started working at a clothing store, Foreman & Clark, in the Buena Park Mall where she developed a loyal clientele. She started buying and selling women’s fashions, first out of her house and then in 1964 out of a tiny store in Anaheim on Brookhurst near Crescent, the first Cylvia’s Fashion Scene. A larger store was opened on Euclid and Broadway, and then in1974 she moved to a final location on Euclid next to Standard Shoes where Cylvia and Harvey operated a successful small business until retiring in about 1987. During their time living and operating the business in Anaheim, Harvey & Cylvia made many more lifelong friends. They had moved to their dream house on the water in Canyon Lake where they enjoyed an active lifestyle until moving to Leisure World in Laguna Hills.
Cylvia kept in touch one way or another with all of her friends, many of whom she had known for 50 years, some she had just met. She also remained close with members of her family. She was a great friend, a loving wife, caring mother and doting grandmother. She lived her life with no regrets.
Cylvia is survived by her husband Harvey, her children Andrea Weiss of Anaheim, CA, Gary Blate of Oakhurst, CA, Stephen Blate of Indio, CA and Melissa Kidd of Laguna Niguel, CA. She was the grandmother of Candace and Cody Blate and of Mac, Jennifer, Karras and Luke Blate.
