Obituary
Curren Gabriel Wahl
Curren Gabriel Wahl, lovingly known as Curbopple to family & friends, passed away from a rare heart condition at the age of 21, on July 23, 2024, in Avalon, California, while hiking on the Trans Catalina Trail with his girlfriend.
Curren was born on August 6, 2002, in Laguna Hills, CA, to Dustin Wahl and Kathryn Couwenberg. He worked at Trader Joe’s for five years, while pursuing his college education, and quickly became close friends with his coworkers. He graduated from Saddleback Community College with degrees in Physics and Liberal Arts and was in the process of obtaining his bachelor’s degree in physics at UC Irvine. Curren was pursuing his dream of becoming a teacher.
Curren was in a very loving relationship for 5 years, with the one and only love of his life, Marisa. He was an avid reader, a passionate surfer, a lover of music, a skilled photographer, and a friend to all. He never turned down an opportunity to help someone or share knowledge. Curren loved spending any opportunity he could with family and friends. He was a mentor and best friend to his two younger brothers, Ryder and Cru. He loved his friends and family! Curren lived his life as a testament to his deep love for Jesus, embodying the teachings of Christ in all that he did.
Curren is survived by his parents, Dustin and Kathryn, his brothers, Ryder and Cru, his many aunts and uncles, his cousins who were really his best friends, his six grandparents, and many dear friends who were like family to him. He will also be dearly missed by his extended family.
A memorial service will be held on September 28, 2024. For more information regarding the service, please contact Curren’s mom, Kathryn, at (951)240-9039. In lieu of flowers, Curren’s family kindly requests donations towards a memorial bench, where all who love him can visit and cherish his memory: https://gofund.me/79bb9120
Curren will be missed and remembered by all who knew him. His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be cherished in our hearts forever. “To live in hearts we leave behind, is not to die.”
Isaiah 57:1 “Good people pass away; the godly often die before their time. But no one seems to care or wonder why. No one seems to understand that God is protecting them from the evil to come.”
