Cora Mae Stellrecht Stubbs

Everyone who met Cora Mae Stellrecht Stubbs loved her. She was caring, kind, generous, and just fun to be with. She had a happy childhood the youngest of 5 children. She and Carl A. Stubbs had a wonderful life together for 54 years. They met when she was only 17 and he was 31. They were totally dedicated to each other. They took their honeymoon on a Harley Davidson motorcycle to visit his relatives in Washington. Carl and she opened a Harley Davidson motorcycle dealership in Decatur Illinois in 1939. They were blessed with 3 children. First came Frank who Cora Mae called her little Buddy because he was her only companion as Carl worked diligently in the motorcycle shop, building it into a thriving business. Next they were blessed with David, little Davey, he was affectionately called by his Mom. Then came Cathi, known as Cathi Sue, or Cye-Hoo by brothers David and Buddy. David was too difficult to pronounce for baby sister so David became Dee.
The family moved to Bellflower California in 1961. Carl retired and he and Cora Mae enjoyed a more relaxed life with David and Cathi. Carl and Cora Mae moved to Sun Lakes Arizona in the early 70’s, Buddy, David and Cathi having started their own adult lives.
Cora and Carl enjoyed a very full life of leisure and traveling. They gathered many close lifelong friends throughout their lives, wherever they went. Cora Mae, A.K.A. Corky to many, treasured her children, they were the delight of her life. She enjoyed them especially because she was always a child at heart herself.
How she loved reciting nursery rhymes and telling bedtime stories. She wrote many poems herself through the years. She was especially adept at spontaneously writing a poem for a friend who was moving, retiring, getting married or who had died. She also enjoyed writing new lyrics to old tunes. Her favorites were songs to or about her very best friend, Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior.
She also would always tell a joke if she was in a group of people for longer than an hour. She loved being at a party and fellowshipping. Hospitality certainly was one of her gifts. House guests were always treated royally.
She eventually became the grandmother of 5. Steve Stubbs, then Joey Wilson then Jessica Wilson, next, Frank Stubbs then Jack Stubbs. She also was blessed with 5 great grand children, Lydia and Dalton Stubbs, Evan and Ethan Dennis and Rainie Wilson. Of course she thoroughly enjoyed these also.
Beloved Carl died in 1989. One of the greatest events in her life was when Carl accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior near the end of his life. She was finally assured that he would be with her in eternity. She was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in her 70’s.

As the P.D. progressed she was unable to care for herself and became part of Cathi and Joes’s household for about 3 years. The last 4 years of her life were spent in a very loving and caring board and care home, Golden Acres, where she live in a family environment. Cathi and Joe and family lived minutes away and were able to spend much precious time with her. Buddy and David and the grandchildren visited as they were able.
She passed from this life to the next in peace. She was 87, to be 88 on February 6 2005. She had a smile on her face just minutes before she took her last breath. Now she is with Carl and so many loved ones. But best of all she is with her precious and dear Lord. He is dancing with her, a dance for eternity.
