Christopher Noble (The Limey)
Born March 7, 1955 – Died January 1, 2023
Chris was passionate about motorcycles, or anything with an engine for that matter. He loved to suit up and jump on one of his bikes for a ride, either with friends or alone. He just needed to ride.
Sadly, Chris passed away at home on New Year’s Day only two months after being diagnosed with ALS. He was born in Birmingham, England to Eric and Winifred Noble where he grew up with his older brother Stewart. After leaving school he served an apprenticeship as a tool and die maker.
He met his wife Susan who was an American citizen living in England; they married in June 1978 and the following week with just two suitcases and $300 in their pocket moved to California, thus starting their married life and the first of many adventures together. Life was never boring with Chris around!
The American way of life suited Chris down to the ground, a neighbor introduced him to dirt bikes and he joined the Jackrabbits MC, enjoying the desert rides and races. He taught his son David how to ride desert at an early age and gave him his first dirt bike on his 5th birthday. He was also a member of the Baja Express team and in 1985, with his partner Ron, raced the Baja 1000 placing second in their class.
He would visit the Isle of Man many times with friends to watch the TT races; he also loved Formula One and was fortunate to go to the races in Australia and Spain.
Chris had a big heart and for over twenty years volunteered for the 3-day breast cancer walk in San Diego, working as part of a team to ensure the safety of the walkers. He also volunteered his time and motorhome for the B.A.D Ride (Bikers Against Diabetes).
Chris was one of “the good guys” and will be remembered for his cheerfulness, sense of humor and sharp wit; he was always quick with a quip – and a hug. His big warm bear hugs will be greatly missed by anyone fortunate enough to have experienced them, which is many.
Chris is survived by his wife Susan, his son David, grandchildren Drake and William and his brother Stewart. He was loved by all his family and returned that love tenfold. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends, daughter-in-law Beki, his nieces who adored him, his nephews, cousins, and in-laws.
Thank you to all the family, friends and neighbors who were so supportive during his illness and for the continued support and prayers for his family.

We are so sad to have lost Chris. He was such a great person and he will be missed immensely. Chris was so funny! He always made time to connect and show genuine interest in our lives. Our neighborhood gatherings will not be the same without Chris rolling up on his cool bike:) Our sincere condolences to Sue and the rest of his family.

Our worlds changed forever when Chris joined our family. His dad met and married my Auntie Norah (Jo) and suddenly Elm Road North was alive. I particularly remember how the garden transformed…from grass to car projects. We were , however , very grateful for the tyres and tarpaulin when we made a makeshift pool in the famous summer of ’76.
Chris would arrive at the house and greet me with a ruffle of my hair and a ‘Hi Cuz’. To me, growing up ,he was the cool kid I aspired to be like. As I grew up, our shared love of bikes and adventures became apparent, and his move to America did not stop us all keeping in touch.
Chris and Sue were regular visitors to the UK family …times that we would cancel everything to make sure we met up…either in a British pub or best of all at Elm Rd North again…with a takeaway.
I have been fortunate to spend time in USA with Chris and Sue….the first time, my friend Sara and I visited them in Downey….we were amused by the water beds and paper bags for our shopping. We couldn’t get to grips with driving everywhere though. Years later, Mike and I took our children David and Christopher to visit….they boys were particularly impressed with their Jeep drive to the desert and first sighting of a snake. Our last trip was on the bikes, where Chris met us in Vegas on our Route 66 trip, then we went to Lake Havasu and spent time on the boat…or standing in the water with a beer to keep cool.
We last welcomed Chris to our home after the lockdown was lifted. True to form, vehicles were part of our experience, as the Flying Scotsman just happened to be going on the line at the bottom of our garden that day!
I will miss the huge hugs, broad smile and a twinkle in his eye. Thankyou for coming into our lives , you made more of an impact than you will ever know.

My Uncle Chris was such a huge presence in my life. Being told the crushing news he had died broke my heart.
Throughout my childhood I would fantasise that him and my dear Aunty Sue would be my parents. I always felt safe with them as a child. As an adult, I got onto his sarcasm, wit and humour, we always had a good laugh. I will forever miss that knowing look across the dinner table at the big family meals and his massive warm hugs.
My Uncle Chris has always been used as an example of a good man for my son as he grew up, which has helped to instill good gentlemanly behaviours, this is a reflection of the high esteem held for him in my home.
I remember him taking me to bike and boat shows and exhibitions in California, how excited he would get over these amazing new motors. All these memories and many more will bring me smiles.
I am so grateful that Mr Chris Noble was a part of our family and my life.
A good and kind gentleman.

Chris will be greatly missed. With all of his toys (motorcycle, RV, bicycle, jeep, etc.), humor, and outgoing personality, he made a huge impact on our neighborhood. The day I met Chris, he overhead my daughter ask me if I was ready to take our dog for a walk. Chris said, they’ll be a point when your daughter won’t ask you that, so you better hurry up and go. Sage advice from a sage person. Sue and family, accept our sincere condolences. Chris, enjoy your new journey!
