Obituary

Christopher Noble (The Limey)

Born March 7, 1955 – Died January 1, 2023

Chris was passionate about motorcycles, or anything with an engine for that matter. He loved to suit up and jump on one of his bikes for a ride, either with friends or alone. He just needed to ride.

Sadly, Chris passed away at home on New Year’s Day only two months after being diagnosed with ALS. He was born in Birmingham, England to Eric and Winifred Noble where he grew up with his older brother Stewart. After leaving school he served an apprenticeship as a tool and die maker.

He met his wife Susan who was an American citizen living in England; they married in June 1978 and the following week with just two suitcases and $300 in their pocket moved to California, thus starting their married life and the first of many adventures together. Life was never boring with Chris around!

The American way of life suited Chris down to the ground, a neighbor introduced him to dirt bikes and he joined the Jackrabbits MC, enjoying the desert rides and races. He taught his son David how to ride desert at an early age and gave him his first dirt bike on his 5th birthday. He was also a member of the Baja Express team and in 1985, with his partner Ron, raced the Baja 1000 placing second in their class.

He would visit the Isle of Man many times with friends to watch the TT races; he also loved Formula One and was fortunate to go to the races in Australia and Spain.

Chris had a big heart and for over twenty years volunteered for the 3-day breast cancer walk in San Diego, working as part of a team to ensure the safety of the walkers. He also volunteered his time and motorhome for the B.A.D Ride (Bikers Against Diabetes).

Chris was one of “the good guys” and will be remembered for his cheerfulness, sense of humor and sharp wit; he was always quick with a quip – and a hug. His big warm bear hugs will be greatly missed by anyone fortunate enough to have experienced them, which is many.

Chris is survived by his wife Susan, his son David, grandchildren Drake and William and his brother Stewart. He was loved by all his family and returned that love tenfold. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends, daughter-in-law Beki, his nieces who adored him, his nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Thank you to all the family, friends and neighbors who were so supportive during his illness and for the continued support and prayers for his family.

A special thank you to Jim and Leigh Ann, Miguel and Adrienne, and Ken and Jennifer for their invaluable help and for the wonderful people they are.

  1. My deepest condolences to Sue and the entire and extended Noble family and their family of friends. We were thankful to be considered family from the first moment we met Chris and Sue.

When I first moved into the neighborhood I would take a daily walk in the afternoon with my Daisy and would run into Chris most afternoons. I will never forget the day we met Tess. Daisy and I were trudging along and we look up and see Chris walking towards us with what looked like a little teddy bear floating a few inches above the ground at the end of the leash. The fluffiest teddy bear ever with the proudest papa. From that day on, Chris was replaced as one of Daisy’s most favorites by Tess, her NEW most favorite. I don’t think Chris minded, as Daisy’ favorites list was very, very short (unless a treat was involved!).

Over the years, we got to know Chris and Sue more and really enjoyed the time spent together. Our all time favorite Thanksgiving dinner was over at their house. Sue went all out with the most incredible turkey dinner. We talked, ate, laughed and drank ourselves into a stupor. And our faces hurt for days from laughing so much. We are so thankful that we were able to spend this past Thanksgiving with them as Chris grew weaker. (Truth is, we loved Sue’s dinner as much as Chris did! And the company was perfect!)

We loved Chris’s wit, humor and sarcasm. He was the only one that could put my husband “in his place” by telling him like it is. I’ll be forever thankful for the special bond that Chris shared with Jim. He was the older (ha), wiser (haha) brother that Jim just adored spending time with. The big brother that never put up with Jim’s nonsense. Well, maybe Chris put up with a little of the nonsense, but would soon find the humor (and definitely the sarcasm) in the nonsense to hold Jim accountable.

We are better people for having had Chris in our lives, and I am going to miss him very much.

My Uncle Chris, whom I will love into eternity. My Auntie Sue, whom I have held in the highest esteem all my life.
It is with great sadness that I feel, to write these words, knowing that he has passed.

Uncle Chris was and always will be my uncle
That I doted on. He was honest, to the point and so very kind.

My twin and I had the pleasure of staying with my amazing Aunt and Uncle in 1989, in Downey. How they put up with us, crazy teenagers, we will never know.
Uncle Chris took my daughter and to Catalina Island. My favourite place in the world. Many happy memories.
In and Out Burger was one of our haunts and I begged Uncle Chris for one of his T-shirts. Our Davy always had a new one. So, for many years I pestered my Uncle for a T-shirt. The last time we all met up as a family, I got my wish. My Uncle Chris finally gave me one of his old t-shirts. Which I am actually wearing as I write.
I am humbled and honoured to have had such an amazing Uncle, who watched me and my twin, grow from tiny people to to whom we are today.
Auntie Sue and Uncle Chris, helped us for who we are today.
      Always in my heart ❤️

  3. Chris always brought a smile to my face whether it was his accent, his blunt or sneaky sense of humor or just his easy to be around personality. He always made you feel better. One time he drove his English sport car to my house and I pointed out the steering wheel was on the wrong side and he was quick to tell me it was on the proper side. Never missing an opportunity to make a point. May he ride motorcycles and drive RVs for eternity. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sue and her family.

  4. Chris was, truly, a treasure! May he Rest In Peace!
We first met Chris when our daughter, Beki, and his son, Dave, were dating in Middle and High school. Chris kind of scared me at first, being a Harley guy and wearing his bandana on his head. (But, that’s pure perception.). I am glad to say, I was incorrect on my perception! He was a very, very very sweet gentle person!
We all reconnected after our daughter and Dave got back together in 2006. And then they married in 2008. Chris and Sue helped us put together a wedding ceremony for the kids in 2009.
We, then, experienced Sue’s great Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners and we were not allowed to help. But, boy, Chris had that turkey carving down to an art!!
Chris will be dearly missed by the both of us!!

  5. Our hearts break for the loss of Chris. He was truly one of a kind. He was filled with compassion, love and genuine kindness for all. He was a big kid with a heart of gold! A genuine spirit that will always hold a special place In our hearts ❤️
Our family loved and adored Chris and had the privilege of being his next door neighbors over the last 9 years. He was the kind of friend and neighbor who you could always count on, no matter what. Our girls knew his passion for bikes and knew that they could always go to him when their e-bikes needed fixing. Often Miguel or I would have chats over the fence while Chris was working on some project. Chris and Miguel had a very special bond. Meeting at the end of the driveway or at the mailboxes for beers after a busy work day will always hold a special place in Miguel’s heart.
Chris and Sue also became our Lab Abby’s 2nd set of parents. Within seconds after telling Chris about a vacation that we were planning, he would say, “we’ll take Abby”. What comfort it was to go on vacation and know that Abby was at her 2nd home.
We were very fortunate to spend the time we did with Chris, and although it was too short, our time with him will always be a treasured memory.
May you Rest in Peace dear friend.
    We love you! ❤️
