Obituary

Catherine “Jan” Peverill passed away peacefully on the morning of April 1, 2013 at the age of 78. Jan is survived by her husband William LeRoy Peverill, her children William and Sandy, her grandchildren Jessalyn, Colton, McClinton, Jordan and her great-grandchildren Elliot, Hudson and Owen.

Jan was born in Ridgewood, New Jersey to Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hungerford. After spending much of her early childhood in New Jersey, Jan’s family relocated to the west coast were she would go on to meet her future husband of 57 years on a blind date. Soon after Bill graduate from USC, the Peverill family of four relocated to San Clemente where Jan would go on to be a prominent figure in the community.

Due to Jan’s love for her community and desire to create new experiences, she would go on to start Introductions Unlimited. The business would soon grow into one of the largest welcoming services in Southern California. Jan became popular with many food critics, including Elmer Dill where she would spend the next 26 years traveling and speaking about popular Bed and Breakfasts across the United States. She would author and publish three popular Bed & Breakfasts books about her unique travel experiences.

Throughout the next 25 years, Jan would never lose sight on the beautiful town of San Clemente where she would go on to create the San Clemente Farmers Market with her daughter, Sandy Heil. Jan was a true entrepreneur creating San Clemente’s first Bridal Show and monthly Art and Craft Show. Jan received many awards including the Soroptimist Woman of Distinction in 1995 and the San Clemente Chamber of Commerce’s Business of Year in 1996.

In honor of Jan Peverill, Rick and Sandy Heil will continue to manage the weekly Farmers Market in her memory for many more years to come!

A celebration of life will be held on April 6, 2013 at the Casa Romantica in San Clemente, CA from 2:00pm-5:00pm.

  1. I met Jan when I answered an ad for a job with the local welcoming service. Introductions Unlimited was my first sales job and Jan showed me the ropes. I was
a young mother of three and just wanted some extra spending money. Then I sold ads for the local map and telephone book. Again Jan showed me how it was done.
The greatest teacher and boss became a dear friend. Even though her staff was all part timers, she treated us to many fine benefits. I will never forget the wonderful lunches at the Riviera Restaurant at SC Plaza. Jan showed us that we were important to the growth of Introductions Unlimited.
Jan was a hugh success at whatever she set her mind to. She was a hard worker and always had a positive attitude that made it happen.
I will miss Jan and her brave outlook on life. As years went by Jan had her trails with
some illnesses, but I hardly ever saw her get down. She and Bill carried on as best they could, always together. They were the best of friends and I admired that.
Jan was a lady of the best kind. She influenced my life more than she ever knew.
I will miss my long time friend.

    Dear Bill, Children and Grandchildren..

It’s been a few years since being in contact with Jan from the old “Elmer Dills Days.” Jan tackled being a correspondent for Elmer like everything she did: with spirit, spunk and elan. Jan’s energy, zest for life and sunshiney approach touched everyone. Sending you my best and wonderful memories of a wonderful lady. Lee Healy

I was saddened to hear of Jan’s death and to know I had missed the celebration of her life. I met Jan when I first decided to join the San Clemente Art Faire (SC Arts & Crafts fair back when it first started). I missed the first 2 shows and I still am showing my wares all these years later. Often on a first Sunday of the month faire, Bill and Jan would drive up Del Mar & always wave to me.

It was there at one of the art faires that Jan & daughter, Sandy were visiting with me and offered me a part time job at Introductions Unlimited. I can’t remember how long I was employed there, but it was wonderful being “part of your family”, as we all became.

May you feel God’s comfort surrounding you and your family at this time.

    Judy Brocato
