Catherine Ann
Grant
April 5, 1964 – July 30, 2007
Cathy Grant was born on April 5, 1964 in Paris, Texas to Rexine Weaver Grant and Stephen Grant of Deport, TX. She was the granddaughter of Dorothy and Russell Grant, and E.L.Red and Inez Weaver. Cathy spent her early life in Deport, until her parents moved to Bonham in 1972. The family relocated to the San Diego area of Southern California in 1974. Cathy was a very active Girl Scout, earning the First Class Award in 1977. She was also an avid musician and played the flute in junior high and high school bands, and dinner theatre orchestras. She graduated with honors from Chula Vista High School in 1982, and was awarded an academic scholarship. She was offered a music scholarship to attend San Diego State University, but chose to pursue a science degree at the University of California – San Diego Campus. In 1987 she graduated with honors from the UCSD Revelle College with a major in microbiology and a minor in accounting. In 1992, Cathy earned a Master of Education degree from National University in San Diego.
Cathy elected to pursue a career in accounting and business. She worked for a major San Diego audio-video supply company for a number of years, where she served as accounting and business operations manager. In 1999 she moved to Orange County to be closer to her parents and started work for Fidelity National Title Insurance in Tustin, California. Her career advanced rapidly and at the time of her passing she was Vice President and Chief Administration Officer for the Default Title Division of Fidelity National Information Services.
In her spare time, Cathy was an ardent and accomplished cross-stitch needleworker and produced a large number of contest-quality pieces. She also loved to travel and explore historical places and in 2004, toured New York City and traveled extensively throughout England and France.
In early 2006, she was diagnosed with advanced amyloidosis, a very rare bone marrow disorder. For over a year she received every possible form of medical treatment and waged a very courageous battle against the disease, but lost her fight on July 30, 2007.
She is survived by her parents, grandmother Inez Weaver, great-grandmother Jesse Newsome, aunts Pamela Sulsar and Betty Buford, her dog Docker, close friend Geri Shepard, and many others who will greatly miss her.
