Obituary

Carmen Gatt passed away June 28, 2020 with her family by her side, and was welcomed by our Lord Jesus Christ to continue his work in heaven.  She was born September 27, 1933 to Alphonse Grech and Maria Marmara in Vittorriosa, Malta.  She had two sisters and two brothers and was the youngest child.

She worked as a seamstress in Malta sewing uniforms for the military and sewed beautiful clothes in her spare time.

She was married to her beloved husband John for 64 years and immigrated to the United States with her husband and 2 children with the hope of making a better life for her family.

She worked as a dietician aide at a convalescent home for 10 years and would crochet beautiful blankets and scarfs in her spare time.  She was adamant about leaving memories behind and bestowed each blanket she made to her children, grandchildren, nieces, and those who touched her life.  She was an inspiration to her children and loved spending time and playing with her grandchildren whom she had a special bond with.  She was a dedicated catholic and walked to church every Sunday.

Carmen was a devoted wife and mother, and leaves behind her four children, Marie, Doreen, George, and John, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.  She will be missed dearly by all.

A joint Mass and Celebration of Life will be held on September 18, 2020 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church in Monrovia, CA for Carmen and her beloved husband John who passed away 78 days before her.

  1. John Gatt says:

    I love you.
The boy you raised to be proud.
The boy you raised with unconditional love, although tough when deserved.
I’m in pain right now, but as you taught me, it’s temporary and will pass.
I’ll carry your work ethic and all the valuable lessons you taught me, as it’s time to move on because I have my family to care for.
You lived a full life and gave us everything you had everyday.
I love you mom and I’ll always be your proud and grateful son.
    Pain free and at ease.
    Rest high and enjoy paradise.

    Your son, John
