Obituary
Carmen Gatt passed away June 28, 2020 with her family by her side, and was welcomed by our Lord Jesus Christ to continue his work in heaven. She was born September 27, 1933 to Alphonse Grech and Maria Marmara in Vittorriosa, Malta. She had two sisters and two brothers and was the youngest child.
She worked as a seamstress in Malta sewing uniforms for the military and sewed beautiful clothes in her spare time.
She was married to her beloved husband John for 64 years and immigrated to the United States with her husband and 2 children with the hope of making a better life for her family.
She worked as a dietician aide at a convalescent home for 10 years and would crochet beautiful blankets and scarfs in her spare time. She was adamant about leaving memories behind and bestowed each blanket she made to her children, grandchildren, nieces, and those who touched her life. She was an inspiration to her children and loved spending time and playing with her grandchildren whom she had a special bond with. She was a dedicated catholic and walked to church every Sunday.
Carmen was a devoted wife and mother, and leaves behind her four children, Marie, Doreen, George, and John, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She will be missed dearly by all.
A joint Mass and Celebration of Life will be held on September 18, 2020 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church in Monrovia, CA for Carmen and her beloved husband John who passed away 78 days before her.

My Dearest Mom, I love you with all my heart and am grateful for everything you have done for me. You have always been there to guide, inspire, and love me unconditionally. You were my biggest advocate and made sacrifices to ensure we were always take care of. You helped me watch AJ when he was a baby and the bond the two of you now share is extraordinary. You are the most wonderful Mother and Nana anyone could have and Austin, AJ and I are blessed for the time we shared with you. It was my honor to have you stay with us the last two months and allow me to care for you with the same love and compassion you showed me. I will always cherish the memories and love we shared and you will always have a place in my heart. I will miss you dearly.

It is a rare thing to have a mother-in-law that you can love as much as your own mother. Carmen was all of that and more.
From the day Marie brought me home to “meet the parents” Carmen showed me nothing but her own special kindness and love. She welcomed me into her family with open arms. And even after 24 years she still tried to get me to drink tea every time we were together. She was truly an optimist.
I will miss you more than you can ever imagine, mom, and I promise that I will always take care of your daughter.
