Capt. Arthur V. Jones

December 20, 1928 - January 13, 2005

Arthur V. Jones was born on December 20, 1928, in Chicago, IL. He died in Irvine, CA. on January 13, 2005 surrounded by his loving family. Art came to the Los Angeles area in 1937 and graduated from Loyola High School in 1946. He received his B.S. in Biology at Loyola University in 1950, where he began a life-long association with the Men’s Basketball program and served as Student Manager as well as player. One of his proudest achievements was to see two children and his oldest granddaughter also graduate from Loyola. He earned a Doctorate of Pharmacy from USC in 1958. Art proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-55, including sea service in the Korean War. He continued his military career in the Naval Reserves until 1976, when he retired as a Captain. He served as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer for the Hawthorne, CA Naval Reserve Training Center, and as Executive Officer at the Long Beach Naval Reserve Training Center.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Barbara Trudeau Jones, his four children, Cathy Smith and her husband, Zane, Chuck Jones and his wife Pat, Carolyn Sermeño, and Chris Jones and his wife Kim. Grandchildren include Dorsie Beth Smith, Meaghan and Evan Sermeno and Tina, Nicky, Matthew and Sam Jones.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at St. John Neumann Church in Irvine, followed by interment at Riverside National Cemetery.

The family has established the Art Jones Memorial Fund to benefit the current Student Managers, as a way to show our appreciation for the Loyola Marymount Men’s Basketball Program, which meant so much to Art. We request that, in lieu of flowers, donations to this fund be made in his memory, in care of Loyola Marymount University/Donor Relations Office, One LMU Dr., Los Angeles, Ca. 90045.

We love you Daddy. You have the heart of a Lion!
