Obituary

Bianki Eddie Edmond Castagnola, 88, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 9, 2008. Ed was born in Mint Canyon, CA in 1920, he was the forth of nine children that later settled in San Pedro, CA. Ed graduated from San Pedro High School in 1939 and he served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. Eddie married Marjorie Martin in 1940 they had six children, Richard deceased, Sidney deceased, Patrick, Loretta, Lillian and Laurence Larry. Eddie went to work for Wilmington Transportation Company, a division of Santa Catalina Island Co. after the war and retired Vice President of Engineering/Maintenance after 49 years. After retirement WTCo honored Eddie with the naming of a tug boat the ‘EddieC’. Eddie loved the sea and harbor area, even when he retired he kept close to the sea living in Laguna Niguel CA. Eddie loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and taking walks at Dana Point. Eddie had a love for life, he was known for his high level of integrity, fairness and humility, you could always get an honest direct answer from him. Doing the right thing was high on his agenda, he was famous for saying, ‘Do it right, if you can’t do it right, don’t do it at all’, he will be missed by all that knew and loved him. Eddie is survived by four of his children, their spouses, 20 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.
