Obituary

Betty Grace Bankson

Betty Grace (Combs) Bankson, 96 of Hesperia, California, departed to her new Heavenly Home on August 5, 2021 from her Residential Care home in Lake Forest, California. Survived by 4 children: James Bankson, Micheal Bankson, Janene Bankson, and Russell Bankson, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, sister Eileen (Combs) Stanton and numerous beloved extended family members and friends.

Betty was born on March 4, 1925, in Walnut, California, to Frank and Kathleen Combs, the youngest of 4 sisters: Lois (Combs) Handly, Mary Ellen (Aunt Lala) (Combs) Handly, Eileen (Combs) Stanton, and Betty (Combs) Bankson. She was married to Marius Bankson in 1948 and they remained married for 66 years until Marius went to his Heavenly Home in 2014.

Betty became a Registered Nurse at the end of World War II and eventually worked for the Gardena Memorial Hospital, Gardena, California, for more than 20 years working the night-shift so that she could be a present mother to her children during the daytime. Sleep was always precious to her.

Her strong faith in God, through her Savior Jesus, compelled her to be a faithful servant at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Torrance, CA, while busily working and raising four children! She served on various boards and guilds, always giving wherever her time and energy was needed.

In her retirement years, Betty, with her husband, Mike, built a life on the High Desert in Hesperia, CA. They devoted their time to caring for and serving others – traveling and camping with friends and family, serving in various roles at their church, always available to be involved with their grandchildren and anyone else who had a need she could minister to.

In lieu of flowers a humble donation to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, billygraham.org, would make Betty happy.
