September 21, 1932 – January 2, 2021

Betty Ann (LaPiana) Hanke passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Kaiser Permanente Orange County – Irvine Medical Center at the age of 88 from Covid complications.  She was born on September 21, 1932 to Frank LaPiana and Florence (Mosino) LaPiana in Los Angeles, California.

Betty married Kenneth (Ken) Hanke on July 26, 1958 at Miraculous Medal Church in Montebello, California and had three daughters. They were married over 62 years and their story ended with their passings only one day apart.  Ken passed on January 3, 2021 following his wife to heaven.

At the time of her death, Betty was survived by her husband Kenneth Hanke, her children Florence (Michael) Porter, Linda Hanke, and Roseanne (Bradley) Secord, grandchildren Mackenzie (Lyssa) Porter, Nicholas Porter, Jaclyn Secord, and Joshua Secord, and siblings Charles (Kathy) LaPiana and Judy LaPiana.  Betty is predeceased by her parents and sister, Patricia Call.

She was a devoted wife, mom and Nona to her family leaving lasting memories of family parties, camping trips, and cruises.  She chose to spend most of her time making handmade gifts for others; treasures to those left behind.  After their retirement, Betty and Ken spent time traveling around the country in their motorhome and via train.  Travel and family were their passions.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 12:00pm on Friday January 29, 2021 at Ascension Cemetery, Guardian Angel Mausoleum, 24754 Trabuco Road Lake Forest, CA 92630.  In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (bcrf.org).  For guestbook information please also visit oconnormortuary.com.
