Obituary

Beth DeMartini, 93, of Laguna Woods passed away peacefully on May 9, 2009. Loving mother of Susan Courtney of San Jose, Jan DeMartini of Pasadena and Jim DeMartini MD of Kentfield; cherished Grandmother of Christopher, Cameron, Sarah, Lauren and Anna; and beloved sister of Eula Crawford of Newport Beach.

Born in the Midwest, she left the small town of Anthony Kansas to attend nursing school and continued further from her roots to become one of the first flight attendants for TWA back in the time when a nursing degree was required to be a stewardess.

She married Bill DeMartini, an attorney for Richfield Oil, and settled in Flintridge. There she was active in the PTA and Red Cross as well as raising her family. Bill passed away in 1963 and several years later she married an old family friend, Bud Lawrence. They settled in Palos Verdes, and Santa Maria where she joyously became involved with her grandchildren.

After Bud passed away, she moved to Laguna Woods and continued her active life of volunteering, travel, gardening, painting and family.

She was a gentle kind person. Though not related to an established religion, she was spiritual in her love and awareness of the land and people around her. Quite stubborn at times, a characteristic helpful to become a pioneer in the airline industry, she was a great companion and we all loved being with her. A true mother, she thought all her children and grandchildren’s accomplishments were spectacular, sometimes beyond reality, and consoled us for our misadventures.

In her quiet way she was a center of our lives, all important events revolved around her. She will be greatly missed.

Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at O’Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Parkway, Laguna Hills, CA.
