Obituary

Bertha was born on November 23, 1942 in Phoenix, Arizona, to Beatrice and Rufus Stinson. She was the second of three daughters. Her mother was a seamstress, and her father worked in construction and owned a landscaping business. As a child, Bertha had many friends and was very outgoing. Her devotion to the Lord started when she was just a young girl, and she served at her church while in elementary school. At a very young age, she married Ernest Freeman, Jr. Together they raised four children, Stormy, Vincent, Ernest, and Wendy. The family traveled extensively throughout the United States and overseas during Ernie’s military career.

Bertha had many fruitful talents, such as cooking, sewing, and ceramics. She created several original recipes for cakes, fish batter, sauces, and beverages. She was a meticulous homemaker, had a remarkable gift for interior design, and a celebrity sense of fashion. She believed that being a good steward over all that you are blessed with is pleasing to the Lord.

After her first marriage ended, she moved to California to begin a new life, where she met and married Adelbert L. Walker. They raised one son together, Justin. Bertha and Del were avid churchgoers and loved to travel. Bertha started and managed her own elder care service. She was adored by her clients and was often treated as one of the family.

If you were acquainted with Bertha in any way, you know how much she loved the Lord and the Word of God. She owned many Bibles, prayer journals, and wrote daily about her love for God and His Word.

Bertha’s Prayer,..What a comfort to know You will live forever and ever, and that I can always be with You. You have promised to always be my God and keep me Your child through eternity. I cling to You the Rock of my salvation. I shall never fear for You are with me. You are First, Last, Always my God and my dearest friend. Written by Bertha May 13, 2011
