   I just want to thank everyone that was there to help and provide my Opa with love and support. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about you. I miss and love you very much. You were the best Opa anyone could ask for. Rest easy and I know you’re looking down on all of us smiling.

   dear uncle Bas, you must be smiling down from heaven now, thanks for being our guardian angel, and for everything you have done for me and been to me during your faithful life as a fruit-bearing Durian tree from Indonesia, I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers, as I wish your spouse, tante Netty courage in bearing her loss and peace, all my loving – your nephew, Dr. Johny Ferdinand Alexander Spangenberg, Lourdes, France (where there is a candlestick lightened to commemorate your life)

   Dear Nettie, Brian, Debbie, Warren and families.
   We are so very, very sorry to hear/read that Bas had gone “Home”, to be with His Lord and Redeemer, Jesus Christ. He had such a terrible time after that fatal fall, when he was, together with Nettie, on his “meals on wheels” mission. He sure did leave behind a big, big emptiness, which was once filled with love, devotion and compassion – for his wife and children.
   I first met Bas in early 1971 when I was transferred to Southern California. Immediately I recognized his character and personality and have always called him one of my best friends ever since.
   Marilyn and I, together with our daughters, Michelle, Laurie and grandson Gabriel, will keep you all in our prayers for strength, courage, wisdom and endurance from our God, who will always be with you.
   With our love and heart filled sympathy.

   The whole family in Holland is very sad with the death of Bas our brother, uncle and nephews
   nichtjes Here is an anecdote from Bas
   He was born in Batavia in December 1934. At a young age mother is very struggling with
   7 children no father and no income, so mother has the boys to the orphanage Sint
   Vincent had to steer After the war Bas lived in Prapatan Menteng At a young age
   he started working to help his mother. In 1955 he went to Holland with his younger brother Ferry
   after which he started working at shipyard NDSM Ferry continued his studies
   In 1959 Bas emigrated to America from New York, he went to California where he went on
   shipyard went to work He saved money to bring his beloved Netty over and then she
   married He and Netty have 3 children Brian Deborah and Warren
   He is very good father working hard for his family. When he was retired he works for the
   Catholic Church to help people, moreover, he is very religious
   Bas we miss you very much We hope and pray for the rest of the family that everything is going well
   All this on behalf of your beloved from Holland
