Obituary
Ashot “Sam” Simonian, 89, passed in peace and went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 in Newport Beach, California. He was born on February 24, 1924 to Taguhi Marcarian and Ferdinand Simonian in Tehran, Iran. He met and married Donna Mae Bauer in December 1953 and went on to have 8 children.
In 1958 he started a typewriter and adding machine business, Universal Typewriter, which is still thriving today. Ashot was an avid fisherman, hunter, and he loved the outdoors. He passed on his adventuresome spirit and love of the outdoors to his children who also love nature, camping, boating, waterskiing and riding motorcycles. Ashot stayed active and exercised every day and at the young age of 89 you would often see him riding his 3 wheel bike on the streets of Huntington Beach.
Survivors include his 8 children, Linda Simonian, Cindy Simonian, Teri Robertson, Jeff Simonian, Steven Simonian, Sondra Colby, Connie Der Torossian and Craig Simonian, and 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews other relatives and many great friends.
Ashot was preceded in death by his wife Donna; parents; his grand parents; and brother Haigus Simonian and sister Hilda Aghabegian.

I will always remember my first visit with Sam at the shop discussing my wishes to marry Teri. Have great respect for him – he was a true gentleman and always made me feel welcome in his presence. Thoughts and prayers to all of the family

SAM you are not only my Uncle but you are my Hero. There is never anyone quite like you. You were a man with a dream and you lived your dream. You have not only succeeded in life, you have thrived. You are larger-than-life, warm hearted, generous and helpful. You were a dreamer, in pursue of American Dream. You came to California in 1950’s – a land where everything and everybody was a stranger. Not only you established a successful business in US but also became a success businessman. As a pioneer, you opened the way for your relatives and friends to follow your footstep. I am sure in doing so there must have been some very tumultuous times. But, you, Uncle, were on the solid ground. You took all of us in, under your wing, and you made us feel safe and secure and welcome. As immigrants, you helped us to start over again. You showered us with your love and hospitality. You encouraged us. You believed in us and in doing so you helped us to believe in ourselves. A task that most others would have found too difficult or too much to take on, you took me and my brother Fred in your house and made us part of your family. You nurture us and allowed us to stand on our feet for a year or two. You have been second father to me and my brother Fred. We love you dearly. Uncle, no one lives forever. But, you will forever live in my heart.
