Obituary

Art Jenkins passed away unexpectedly at the age of 70 on March 5 at his home in Laguna Beach, California. He was a loving father and a loyal friend, teacher, mentor, and coach. A self-made man committed to strong Christian values, Art was loved and respected by many. He is now at home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his loved ones who went home before him.

Art was born on November 21, 1941, in Alhambra, California, to parents James and Isabelle Jenkins. After graduating from Monrovia-Duarte High School and Azusa Pacific College, Art received a master’s degree from Los Angeles State University. A consummate athlete who was passionate about tennis, beach volleyball and basketball. Art was a teacher and a coach at Dana Hills and Aliso Niguel High Schools. He coached for many community programs, as well. Throughout his life, he gave time and energy freely to students and athletes. His teams won numerous championships in both tennis and basketball.

Art is survived by his only child, Kymberly Jenkins, and his beloved grandson, Dylan and his brother William & Annie Jenkins.

A celebration of Art’s life will take place on Sunday, March 25, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. at the Little Church by the Sea, 468 Legion Street in Laguna Beach.

    RIP Mr. Jenkins. He was my favorite teacher at DHHS and I believe, inspired me to pursue my BA in Psychology. After so many years, he is still in my thoughts and was actually looking him up to get guidance on how I can get “in” to teach the subject too… I am saddened to hear of his passing and will hold my dear mentor in my heart
