Obituary

Antonette Adelina Quinonez aka: Mom, Grandma, Gigi, Sis, Annie & Lena was born in Los Angeles on November 10th, 1925 and died in Coto de Caza, California on October 3rd, 2010. She was extremely proud to be a California Native and felt very blessed to be an American. Her heritage was Mexican & Sicilian and she was the oldest girl in a family of 4 boys & 4 girls. As a child, she learned to look after her younger siblings which continued throughout her life. She was very close to her mother & with all of her family. She loved cooking, baking, music, singing, dancing to Glenn Miller’s Big Band sound, softball, bowling, bingo & card games. Some of her all time favorites were: The color blue, the red rose, Lobster and Benihana’s. She worked throughout the years to help raise her children. But most of all she loved being a homemaker, taking care of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all who came into her circle. She was completely devoted to those she loved and she was generous beyond belief. We all enjoyed her great biscuits, awesome pies, terrific spaghetti with meatballs, super enchiladas & bean burritos made with homemade tortillas that her great-grandson Jon called ‘the bomb’, to name only a few of what she spoiled us with.

She taught us that you can never do enough for friends and family by the way she rolled out the hospitality on any occasion we had to get together. A family friend used to say that you should treat your friends better than they deserve to be treated and she epitomized that thought. She taught us how to share and to show emotion, occasionally with a little fire, but most of all with love. She loved watching old movies from the 40’s & 50’s and her favorite author was Danielle Steele. She enjoyed gatherings with family & friends and was always ready to go to Las Vegas. Her smile and demonstrative personality is a part of every person with whom she came into contact. Her presence on earth was a gift to us all.

She is survived by her daughter, Anne, & sons Gene, Nick, Mark, and Michael; sisters, Tillie & Connie; 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren & 1 great-great-grandchild. Her legacy is in the love of all her family left behind who will always remember her wonderful spirit.

She was a devout Catholic with an unfailing faith, believing she would be reunited with her parents, siblings & others she loved who went on before her. She left this earth completely unafraid leaving behind love and forgiveness to all she cared about. There are many words and terms to describe her and numerous are appropriate; however, there are two that say it best of all: Unconditional Love.

  1. To Q and family,

You have all been in my thoughts and prayers. One of the special memories I will always have of Auntie Lena is her laugh and smile. It was always such a joy to see her speak of her beautiful family. She spoke of you all with so much pride and happiness always. Although, she is deeply missed. She will forever be in all of our hearts. Much love to you all

To all who knew and loved my sister, I know you knew how wonderful she was! She was always there for me, either by phone, letter, or in person for all my needs. As a child she would take me to the movies, buy candy, go to “Clifton’s Cafeteria” to have lunch, and always took care of me like “Momma” did. I will always cherish the times when she came to visit for days, when we played cards and just watched movies together. To her family, I will always be here for you. This was my promise to my sister. With all my Love & Peace be with you all. Your Loving Aunt

  3. I loved when she would stay at our house in La Habra. She would make my mom and me laugh so hard. She would get this look in her eye when she was up to something, I loved her home made tortillas. She will be missed by lots. She is with her family and friends having a good ole time.

    Dear Mike,
I have very good memories of your mom when we were growing up together in Albuquerque.
She was always a take care of business kind of gal at the same time, a very caring and compassionate person.
Darlene & I want you to know that you are in our hearts & prayers.

    To Tia’s loving family,
I am deeply saddened to learn of Tia’s passing, as I was to hear of her recent struggle with health. The numerous attributes recounted in her obit go a long way toward acquainting us with her life story, reminding us of the love that we share for our dear friend. But words can barely capture the essence of this extraordinary woman — her indomitable spirit,
her warmth, her authenticity, her passion. I delight in counting myself among the many whose lives have been touched by Annie Quinonez. In Lima, Peru, in Albuquerque, in Califas, our families have shared a relationship born of mutual affection and compadrazco. I feel Tia’s presence in reflecting upon the times that we’ve shared.
    It feels so good.
May the strengths that you have inherited from Tia endure as her greatest legacy.
    Sincerely,
    Greg
