Obituary

Annamarie Nagy
June 8, 1934 – March 24, 2025

We are sad to announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother, aunt, and friend, Annamarie Nagy, on March 24, 2025. She passed peacefully at her home in Irvine.

Annamarie was born in Hungary on June 8, 1934 to her parents, Anna and Bela Biro. She met her future husband, Huba Nagy, when she was 14 years old. He became the love of her life and they married in 1953.

Annamarie and Huba, together with their two-year old daughter, parents, and younger brother escaped from Communist Hungary following the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. They started new lives in the U.S. and welcomed their second daughter in 1958. Eventually the young family settled in Southern California. Huba was an accomplished and talented architect. He was very successful and well-known in his profession and the building industry, with many award-winning projects.

Annamarie graduated from California University Long Beach with a degree in German and French and became a high school teacher in these languages. She later earned a Master’s degree in Library Science, and worked as librarian for the Diocese of Orange for many years.

Together, Annamarie and Huba traveled extensively throughout the world, with a shared passion for art, architecture, and history. Sadly, Huba passed away in 2000.

Annamarie had many interests, including travel, cruising, Bridge, current events, and reading. She was also very devout in her Catholic faith, and was a devoted and active volunteer in many areas for her parish and diocese.

Annamarie is survived by her daughters, Annemarie and Beatrice, sons-in-law, Paul and Monty, grandchildren Suzanne, Christina, Stephen, Jennifer, Laura, John, and Kevin, 14 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Memorial Mass with a reception following will be held at a date TBD in early May 2025.
