Obituary

Angelina Hudson

Wife, Mother, Grandmother and soon to be Great-grandmother

My mom loved angels, hearts, baking, and the colour blue (turquoise) Most importantly Angelina was a devout Catholic and she adored and venerated Our Lady of Guadalupe.  She fell in love with Mary when she was a little girl (inspired by her mother, Isabel) and carried her devotion of Our Lady into her heart throughout her life.

She loved singing at church, and she had a beautiful voice.  She also played her Gibson Hummingbird guitar for many years in the church choir – St Nicholas, Santiago de Compostela and St Kilian’s.  She was gifted in music and voice.

My mom loved teaching.  It was her true gift to be able to teach the youngest – Kindergarteners.  She taught for over 50 years and retired in 2010 from Olivewood School in Lake Forest.  She taught generation after generation of children some of whom returned to her as adults insisting that their children be placed in Mrs Hudson’s classroom.  She was known for making ceramics and amazing crafts which children would save for years to come.

My mom loved gardening and when she retired from teaching, she just looked forward to tending her gardening and her many flowers. She was a keen gardener and grew many exotic fruits to make homemade desserts and jams.  She also loved the wild birds and supplied many bird baths in her garden to always keep ‘her’ birds refreshed.

Angelina has five surviving children –Jaime, Michael, Vincent and her two daughters Heidi and Judy.  Her grandchildren are Stephany, Hamilton and Harrison. She was very proud of her grandson Hamilton Hudson who married Lauren and they are soon expecting their first child due in August – this would have been Angelina’s first great-grandchild.

My mom has three surviving sisters:  Rosemary, Mary and Sally and one brother Robert.  Her eldest sister, Carmen had recently passed away a few months ago.

Her devoted and dear husband, Karl Hudson has been a loyal husband and companion to Angelina for over 63 years.  They just celebrated their 63rd anniversary on February 16th.  We used to always love hearing the story of when mom and dad met and fell in love (it was love at first sight!).  The story went something like this …my dad was in the US navy and his ship docked for a weekend break.  It was Angelina’s youngest sister Sally who desperately wanted to attend a USO sponsored dance in Long Beach to meet a particular sailor, but their mom would not let Sally go on her own and insisted she could only go if her big sister Angelina escort her.  That night my mom met my dad for the first time and the rest is history.

Angelina had many beloved friends through church, her rosary group, Olivewood Elementary (where she taught), her neighbors and wherever she prayed.

Throughout the last 20 years Angelina was incredibly loyal to helping the Norbetine Sisters in Tehachapi where she not only generously donated to their works but also helped garden and bring them home baked goods and fresh fruit on her many pilgrimages to their monastery in the desert mountain.

Angelina was kind, generous, beautiful inside and out and a devoted and faithful follower of Christ.  We will all miss her very much.  Love you mom.

In Lieu of flowers:  Please do not send any flowers to our home or the church.

My mother was very specific that she did not want any flowers purchased in her name. Instead, these are the suggestions provided by our mother in lieu of flowers:

  • Donate to her favourite charity (below)
  • Pray the rosary for her
  • Offer a mass in her name

    Dear Angie,
    Yes, you made a difference!
You loved all those darling Kindergartners at Olivewood
Elementary, and they loved you right back.
I hold you in high esteem, and will
always remember your devotion to our Blessed Mother and to the “prayer warriors”, the Norbertine canonesses,
of Tehachapi. I’ll remember your fabulous lemon bars, too, and your biscotti.
Always smiling, always giving, your dear face will remain in my heart.
(It was a blessing that I also taught with you at that little school in Lake Forest…)
May you rest now, in eternal peace.

  3. You leave a powerful legacy of devotion to our Blessed Mother. I will remember you wearing your colorful embroidered blouses at Mass, and your delicious food. Rest In Peace

Aunt Angie, your beautiful faith and devotion to Our Lady and her son, Jesus has left a lasting impression on my heart. Thank you for the many delicious and lovingly prepared care packages of cookies and lemon bars sent while Chris and I lived overseas. Most importantly thank you for your extraordinary example of a life lived centered on the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. May you rest in the loving arms of Our Lord. 💕
