Obituary

In Loving Memory of

Andrew (Andy) Bernard Hoffart
January 24, 1932 to April 25, 2026

Andy was born on a farm in Dilke, Saskatchewan, Canada. A middle child of Andreas Hoffart (who immigrated from Russia) and Agatha Gardner. Growing up on the farm meant ice fishing for pike in the cold winter mornings, taking a wagon to school, sleeping on a straw mattress and plenty of chores. He had lots of stories of growing up with his 9 siblings: George, John, Rose, Eddie, Joe, Margaret, Ralph, Jack and Bob.

He started his career as an accountant for the provincial government and met Sylvia, his wife of 69 years, in the city of Regina. They married in 1956 and had their first daughter, Pam, in Canada. Deciding that there may be better opportunities and warmer weather in California, the young family moved to Anaheim in 1959. There, Andy worked for a variety of companies as an accountant, took executive business courses and became a controller and trusted, astute financial businessman. He participated in the Kiwanis Club and Toastmasters. Three more daughters were born in Anaheim: Michele, Joslyn and Paula. In 1973, they moved into a new home in Mission Viejo which is where they further built their lives together.

After working at a few companies including a concrete company and a meat processing company, Andy became the general manager of American Display where he designed and patented a couple of sign-related mechanisms. The company moved north but Andy and Sylvia decided Southern California was their forever home. He was hired as the general manager/CFO of Quick Crete Products, working for a long-time business associate. He was a tough and sensible but approachable boss with wise business sense. Andy retired in 2002 but continued to do friends’ and families' tax returns and occasional business consulting.

When the family was young, annual summer road trips were made to stay connected with their family in Canada. Eventually, Andy and Sylvia were able to travel the world extensively. While at home, Andy meticulously tended to their yard and rose garden. He did this well into his 90’s and also served as treasurer of the Rose Society. Sundays were dedicated to Mass, brunch, grilling for the family and relaxing. Never straying far from his farming roots, he was known for his homemade sausage, pickles and BBQ sauce.

Throughout all his years, his highest priority was supporting Sylvia and their family. He never missed an activity, sporting event, parade or competition in which his daughters, “the girls”, participated. He openly welcomed his sons-in-law into the Hoffart family; occasionally playing a round of golf or fishing with them. Andy loved relaxing at their Palm Desert condo with the family, sitting by the pool and barbecuing for everyone. Over the years, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren were added to the family.

As things became more difficult physically due to Parkinson’s, Andy’s favorite spot in the house was his recliner. He was a quiet but strong presence and loved being at all family gatherings.

Although he was a man of few words, he always had witty comments which made people laugh. In recent years he preferred dessert over dinner, especially ice cream. As he had hoped, he passed away peacefully at home in his bed next to his beloved wife, Sylvia.

Andy is survived by: Wife - Sylvia. Daughters - Pamela (Andy) Banks, Michele (Jay) Jeffries III, Joslyn (Scott) Strode, Paula (David) Pritts. Grandchildren - Nathan Banks, Alyssa (Kade) Boisseranc, Sean (Emily) Banks, Jay Jeffries IV, Hayley (Mychal) Matzek, Eric (Taylor) Strode Bunkers, Bradley Strode, Dylan Strode, Lauren (Austin) Michelsen, Andrew (Fiance- Nicole) Pritts, Colin Pritts. Great Grandchildren - Raef and Brisa Boisseranc, Leo and Nikki Banks, and Kynsley Matzek. Siblings - Ralph (Ann), Bob (June). Sisters-in-law - Janet and Rose. Many nieces and nephews.
