Obituary

Alice L. Shimko

Alice Louise (Kalmback) Shimko, age 82 of San Juan Capistrano, peacefully earned her angel wings on Sunday July 19, 2015. She was at home surrounded by her husband and children.

Born on May 22, 1933 in Lambertville New Jersey, she was the second of seven children, the daughter of Walter and Eva (Jazkulsky) Kalmback.

Alice graduated from Somerville High School, class of 1952. She was married the same year to John Shimko of Raritan New Jersey and raised six children. She was employed for more than twenty years with Ortho Diagnostics in Raritan and numerous pharmaceutical companies in Southern California as a Quality Assurance Specialist.

Alice was very artistic and enjoyed oil painting, making porcelain dolls, and crafts with great detail. She was featured in the American Girl story book collection “1944 Molly Learns A Lesson”, as a member of a group who knitted a blanket for the American Red Cross. She was an award winning baker and loved to cook, whether it was for family, friends or anyone that would happen to show up at the house. She loved a good party and treated everyone like family. She was also very athletic and a huge sports fan (especially the Lakers!). She enjoyed playing UNO and rummy with her grandchildren, going to play Bingo, the casino and Del Mar racetrack.

Alice is survived by her husband of 62 years, John Shimko and her six children: Cynthia Johnson (Jim) of Joelton Tennessee, Denise Bloomer (Alan) of Tierra Verde Florida, Joy Rodriguez (Arthur) of Templeton California, John Shimko (Marnee) of Huntington Beach California, Alan Shimko of Irvine California and David Shimko of Costa Mesa California.

She had eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Johnson, Thomas Johnson, Jessica Peckham, Joylyn Erb, Chanae Rodriguez, Abagail Bloomer, Spencer Davie and Cooper Davie.

And three great grandchildren, Scarlett Johnson, Aaliyah Peckham and Landon Johnson.

She will be greatly missed.
