Obituary

Alessandro (Alec) Pizzolo

Loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 15, 2012 in his home due to melanoma cancer.

He was born on June 14, 1920 in Verona, Italy, the youngest of 7 children. He came to America after being drafted into the Italian army and brought to a POW camp in Long Beach, California. Here he met his bride, Jeanne Marie Gasper, who was working in the camp driving army trucks. The two fell in love and after the war when Alessandro returned to Italy Jeanne followed him. The two worked for several years in Switzerland: Jeanne for the Pope’s Children’s War Relief Society and Alec as the head wine steward of the Grand Hotel on Lake Lucerne in Brunnen, Switzerland. The two were married in an Italian province of Switzerland on March 6, 1947. They then travelled back to America aboard the Queen Mary and by train to California. They set up their home in Long Beach. Jeanne worked as a secretary and Alec in construction. They had their only son Marc Angelo Pizzolo on May 8, 1953. In 1955 they moved to Garden Grove where they resided until 1971. They then moved to Anaheim before building a home in Irvine.

Alec officially retired from the construction business in 1982 as the supervisor of Facco Inc., but continued working on projects including their home in Irvine and two homes in San Juan Capistrano for his son and daughter-in-law. Alec was an avid cyclist and soccer fan. If not watching a soccer game he was out riding his bicycle, twenty-five to fifty miles every other day. He had a tremendous love for his family, and his biggest joy in life was spending time with them.

Alec is survived by his wife Jeanne; son Marc; daughter-in-law Peggy; three grandchildren, Cara Morales, Kristin Young, and Andrew Pizzolo; one great-grandson, Hunter Morales; and a great-granddaughter, Madeline Morales, on the way.

Funeral services will be held on Friday July 20 at 1 pm at the Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano.

Dear Marc, I never had the pleasure of meeting your dad and I know that was my loss. However, through Kristin his value of Catholic education and family were ever present and it had a very positive impact on my family. He raised a very amazing family (which will keep growing) and I know first hand how powerful, kind and loving his spirit is. I am truly sorry for your loss. May his reunion with Jesus be sweet and may the Lord comfort you, your mom and your entire family during this very very sad time. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. With love and respect,

  4. Dear Jean, Marc, Peggy and family: I know how you just lit up when you talked about Alec. I have had the pleasure of meeting him several times and he always amazed me with his sharp ideas and great bike rides even though he was going through difficult physical times. I’ve thought about what you all have been going through knowing that his time with us on this earth was shortened. May you all be blessed with the thoughts that you prayed for his journey to be seamless and I hope and know that we all believe God has another plan for him. My love and prayers to all of you.

  5. It was an honor and a pleasure to meet the Pizzolo family. They very generously accepted us into their family. .Alec and Jeanne were always welcoming and generous. I have to share one funny moment. The first time I met Alec and Jeanne was when we went to their home for dinner. Alec soon offered me a drink. I politely declined (don’t ask me why) and he gave me a look that said “I don’t trust anyone who won’t have at least a glass of wine” I gladly accepted after that. I know Alec is in a better place now and mayGod give comfort to Jeanne and the rest of the Pizzolo family
