| TIP’s Importance after Mass Casualty Events (TIP)
Illustrated by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles County, entire communities feel the impact of events when there is widespread trauma. While TIP is one “wheel” in a large response machine in such events, our training and experience is invaluable because devastation is so wide and responses of victims are so diverse. Whether the “mass casualty event” is a wildfire displacing hundreds or thousands of residents, or a car crash in which three teens are killed, the role of compassionate, trained volunteers is inestimable. In this inservice presentation, Dr. Bill Hoy will address the value TIP volunteers can bring when there are many interwoven traumas occurring simultaneously and how our care in such settings actually helps to prevent unhealthy long-term trauma responses on the part of survivors.
