.Topic: Helping Residents with Life Review

In their care of residents, RCFE administrators and staff have many opportunities to support the psycho-social-spiritual needs of residents. One often-overlooked need for older adults is a supportive person to participate with them in “life review” by listening for stories, asking clarifying questions, and simply “being present with the memories.” In this course, participants will learn the best methods and strategies for supporting this important psychosocial need in the final chapter of a resident’s life.
Objectives. At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to. . .
- Describe reasons life review process is important for older adults
- Use proven strategies for asking questions and encouraging story-sharing
- Assist residents in recording their life story for family and friends
2 CEUs for RCFE and Nurses | RCFE Approval 210-0204-33520. The California Department of Social Services permits continuing education credit for this course only one time during each renewal period. Participants should check their own records to see when they last attended this course before submitting their renewal.
